The 21st Century Plague

Ring hands and hold breaths.
Get up and move to the living room.
No, no. Get up and go to Starbucks.
Sit at Starbucks for a while.
Begin to ring hands and hold breaths.
Plot and scheme.

Fight restlessness, fight fear of rest.
Deny sleep.
Deny pauses.
Deny waiting in lines.
Time is of the essence.

Browse the web for something to spark curiosity.
Read about a new scientific study to spark curiosity.
Read about current events to spark curiosity.
Check Facebook/Twitter/Tumblr/Reddit/Wordpress/LinkedIn to spark curiosity.
Look for a new band to spark curiosity and sense of liveliness.
No liveliness.
Ephemeral curiosity.
Returning restlessness.

Ring hands and hold breaths.
Buy “stuff” to satiate ennui.
Buy shoes.
Feel the return of ennui.
Buy books.
Feel the return of ennui.
Buy a Rubik’s cube.
Feel the return of ennui.
Buy ______.

Feel the return of ennui.
Run away.
Feel the return of ennui.
Fall in love.
Feel the return of ennui.
Work long hours.
Feel the return of ennui.

Ring hands and hold breaths.
Feel entrapment.
Realize the ubiquity of that feeling.
Feel helpless.
Realize that this is permanent.
Realize that you are bored with existence.
Realize that Modern Boredom is the invisible plague of the 21st century.
